Establishing Meaningful Standards

Monday, April 30, 2001
Building upon its continued leadership in the wide format ink jet imaging community, LexJet announced today that it has signed agreements with three prestigious, independent, testing facilities. The agreements are to insure that professional digital photographers and digital image creators are provided the exacting standards and expectations they require when producing digital images.

Companies contracted by LexJet to conduct independent testing on digital camera settings, Adobe Photoshop settings, RIP settings, ink jet printers, ink and ink jet media include Wilhelm Imaging Research, Inc., Rochester Institute of Technology Research Corporation and Imaging Insider.

"Our position is a simple one," states Ron Simkins, President of the LexJet Corporation. "We are setting a performance threshold for all companies who wish to participate with LexJet in this new market and that threshold will be to adhere to strict, independent standards or run the risk of falling behind those manufacturers who do adhere to those standards," he commented. "We are raising the barrier to entry to this new market and establishing a responsible set of guidelines and criteria that will fairly, accurately and independently establish standards at the same time properly setting expectations for end users," Simkins said.

The testing criteria and methodology established for the LexJet announcement represents months of work on the part of DuPont Color Proofing, LexJet and the companies selected for the program.

Wilhelm Research will provide high-intensity accelerated light fading tests and humidity-fastness tests. Rochester Institute of Technology Research Corporation will conduct a battery of 18 tests ranging from gamut volume to ozone fading and dry time. Imaging Insider's Elmo Sapwater and Andrew Rodney will provide the tested settings for several digital cameras and the related settings for those cameras within Adobe Photoshop.

"We are extremely pleased with the enthusiasm for this program exhibited by participants representing all segments of the industry," stated Art Lambert, Vice-president of the LexJet Corporation. "There is no question that LexJet's facilitation of the establishment of the standards and aiding in the setting of the expectations for the end users will hasten the acceptance of digital imaging and ease the transition from chemical photography to digital photography," Lambert continued. "We are pleased to have taken the leadership role in funding and assembling the participating companies and professionals who will set standards that will define this industry for years to come," he said.

Results of the ongoing testing will be available at no charge and will be published on the company's website.
