Until recently, imaging companies that wanted to offer high-quality inkjet canvas gallery and museum wraps either had to stretch the canvas manually, painstakingly putting the pieces together, or make a fairly substantial capital investment in automated equipment. Now they can use LexJet's pre-made Sunset Stretcher Kits and do it economically and professionally in just minutes.
"Sunset Stretcher Kits are extremely simple to use and put together. I can now stretch an entire canvas in under ten minutes," says Chris Piccirillo, Mind's Eye Photography, St Marys, Pa.
LexJet's Sunset Pro Stretcher Kit comes with four stretcher bars that are 1.5 in. deep and 1.25 in. wide, while the Sunset HD Pro Stretcher Kit stretcher bars are 1.75 in. deep and 1.25 in. wide. Each kit also includes corner braces, industrial-strength corner clips and hanging wire. With two strips of adhesive on the sides and back only a minimum amount of staples are needed to make a canvas wrap.
"Just like hand-made frames, the Sunset Stretcher Kits are heavy and substantial, giving them a classic, professional look and feel," says Alex Ried, LexJet product manager. "The stretcher bars and the way they are milled for a vertical grain are designed specifically to prevent warping. The bracing, the depth of the channel and the way the corner braces are driven in also ensure a solid canvas frame that will not warp or fail."
The kits are available in a variety of sizes, including custom sizes up to 90 inches in 10-inch increments. Though the kits work with any inkjet-printable canvas, they are fine tuned for use with LexJet Sunset Canvas and Coatings. LexJet's award-winning Sunset canvas line includes the new Sunset Reserve Matte Canvas and Sunset Reserve Bright Matte Canvas, Sunset Select Matte Canvas, Sunset Select Gloss Canvas and Sunset Select Satin Canvas SUV (engineered for solvent, low-solvent and UV-curable printers).
The kits are now available and shipping from LexJet's nationwide network of distribution centers. LexJet has also released two how-to videos at its YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/lexjet) that detail the entire canvas wrap process using the Sunset Pro and HD Pro Stretcher Kits.
The first video shows how to set up a file for a wrapped canvas by adding a solid color border or mirrored edge in Photoshop. The second shows how to stretch the canvas, from start to finish, using the kit:
