LexJet to Display Digital Printing Possibilities at Las Vegas Artexpo and FPPA

LexJet’s booth (1033) at the Las Vegas Artexpo, Sept. 19-21, will showcase the myriad of digital solutions available to the fine-art, décor, and photographic reproduction markets. LexJet will also be exhibiting at the Florida Professional Photographers Convention and Trade Show, Aug. 23-27 at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando (Booth 23), demonstrating the in-house printing workflow and offering some show-only specials.

LexJet representatives will be on hand to give demonstrations on the latest technologies in wide-format inkjet printing, showing how the custom digital inkjet process works from capture to print utilizing the latest workflow and imaging software and wide-format printers.

At Artexpo, LexJet will display three original pieces of art, each reproduced on LexJet’s Sunset line of canvas, fine-art, and photo papers. Other printed samples will be available to show the endless possibilities of digital printing beyond giclee reproductions.

“A giclee reproduction is only one of literally dozens of potential applications for art and photography. Now, interior designers, architects, and others specifying interior décor and environmental graphics are beginning to see the huge benefits of cost-effectively printing custom images for a variety of surface treatments,” explains LexJet’s Carey Masera, who will be one of LexJet’s representatives at the Las Vegas Artexpo. “Customized digital printing has become quite cost-effective, and thus more accessible. This is great news for the art market, because custom digital printing is opening up additional avenues and revenue streams for artists and photographers, and the galleries that represent them.”

Nik’s Silver Efex Pro Aids Black-and-White Conversions

Nik’s new SilverEfex Pro plug-in is designed to overcome some of the time-consuming challenges and control limitations of converting color images to black-and-white.

Silver Efex

Starting from a neutral conversion of your image, you can make one-click adjustments from a choice of over 20 preset styles, ranging from nostalgic processes such as ambrotypes and tintypes to classic artist renderings, trendy high contrast, soft focus or grainy images. You can choose to stick with any one of these 20 styles, or further modify your image by applying color filters, vignettes, or variable toning controls, including sepia, selenium, split-toning, or user-defined colors.

Because the software uses Nik’s patented U-Point technology, Silver Efex Pro gives you direct on-image control of tonality, contrast, and structure. You don’t need to create complicated selections and layer masks to precisely control specific areas of your image.

The software’s advanced imaging algorithms protect against unwanted artifacts and enable you to emulate 18 different black-and-white film types, including the grain, color sensitivity and tone curve for each. A new grain engine that mimics the silver-halide process can be used to help achieve the best-quality reproductions of scanned photographs.

SilverEfexPro retails for $199.95 and installs as a plug-in for either Adobe Photoshop or Apple Aperture 2.1.  It is available for Windows and Mac operating systems, including Vista and Leopard.

For video tutorials showing the software running within Photoshop and Aperture and a free, 15-day trial version, visit www.niksoftware.com/silverefexpro.com, or contact a LexJet account specialist at 800-453-9538.
