ImagePrint Network Setup Options

There are 5 ways to install IMAGEPRINT in a Windows-Macintosh mixed network environment. To best accommodate your workflow, please take a few minutes to review these options, then select the one that works best for you.

OPTION 1: ImagePrint Stand-Alone
Utilize the full set of IMAGEPRINT layout features to printer(s) directly connected to your computer or accessible on the network.

Requirements:
  • Macintosh running System 9x or Windows PC running Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000 or NT
  • IMAGEPRINT Installation CD for Windows or Macintosh
This is the normal setup option, enabling you to use the full IMAGEPRINT interface on a single computer connected to one or more printers. Installation is done via the standard IMAGEPRINT install CD. Remote copies of ImagePrint can easily be installed on other Mac or Windows computers (with no additional licensing) that allow these remote systems to utilize the full interface as well (see ImagePrint Client, below).

OPTION 2: ImagePrint Client
Utilize the full set of IMAGEPRINT layout tools on one Mac or PC while printing to another computer.

Requirements:
  • Macintosh running System 9x or Windows PC running Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000 or NT
  • TCP/IP network protocol
  • IMAGEPRINT Installation CD for Windows or Macintosh
Once you have installed an IMAGEPRINT Printer Host, you can install any number of copies of the software to act as Clients to that host. Installation is done via the standard IMAGEPRINT install CD--just make sure to enter the name of the IMAGEPRINT Printer Host in the installers Printer Host field. IMAGEPRINT clients will be able to use the full IMAGEPRINT interface to layout jobs--printing, however, will be handled by the IMAGEPRINT Printer Host for the specified printer.

OPTION 3: ImagePrint Windows Driver
Print from any Windows application to a Windows IMAGEPRINT Host.

Requirements:
  • Windows 2000, NT
  • IMAGEPRINT for Windows, PostScript version only
At the time of install on Windows 2000 and NT machines, a Windows printer driver is installed, allowing you to print from Windows applications such as Photoshop or Quark directly into the IMAGEPRINT queue. The layout features of the IMAGEPRINT Main Interface are not available when this option is utilized, although IMAGEPRINT’s color management, screening, and queue controls are used. Note that this in no way utilizes the printer driver that may be supplied by the printer manufacturer.

OPTION 4: ImagePrint Macintosh Desktop Printer
Print from any Macintosh application to a Windows ImagePrint Host.

Requirements:
  • Macintosh running System 8.6 or above
  • Windows computer running IMAGEPRINT PostScript version
  • TCP/IP network protocol
An IMAGEPRINT desktop printer setup utility is included on each IMAGEPRINT CD, allowing you to create a Macintosh desktop printer. Utilizing the IMAGEPRINT desktop printer, users can print from any Macintosh application to the IMAGEPRINT spooler. If multi-page layouts are desired, an option is included to have the desktop printer print to a “hot” folder on the Windows computer, which can then be used with the AutoPrint utility (see below) to automatically layout pages.

OPTION 5: ImagePrint AutoPrint Automated Hot Folder Printing
Drop images into a folder to have them automatically nested and printed, hands-free.

Requirements:
  • Windows PC running Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000 or NT
  • IMAGEPRINT Installation CD for Windows
  • Mac/PC connectivity software if you wish to drag files from your Macintosh to the hot folder residing on the PC (Optional)
AutoPrint is an automated printing solution that utilizes “Hot Folders” for hands free laying out and printing of images. This option is useful for scenarios where designers need to drop images into a folder without using the IMAGEPRINT interface, or when jobs are sent from the Macintosh via the IMAGEPRINT desktop printer. Many options are available for customizing how pages are composed and when they should be sent to the printer. Multiple queues can be created to support different printers or print parameters, and all of IMAGEPRINT’s color management and screening features are utilized. Jobs are sent to the normal IMAGEPRINT queue for printing, so all queue features are available as well.
