New HP Designjet Z3200 Uses Chromatic Red Ink

At the Photokina World of Imaging Show in Germany, HP unveiled the new Designjet Z3200 pigment-ink photo printer. The company also revealed its collaboration with Nikon on products that will enable end-to-end digital fine-art solutions for professional photographers.

The first HP/Nikon solution to be introduced is a simplified digital fine-art reproduction system that consists of a Nikon D3 camera, the HP Designjet Z3200 Photo Printer, and a special edition of ErgoSoft StudioPrint photo RIP software powered by HP Artist Software technology.

Available in 24 in. and 44 in. widths, the Designjet Z3200 is designed for the production of black-and-white and color photographs, art enlargements, large-format designs, and high-accuracy proofs. The most noteworthy enhancement is a new HP 73 Chromatic Red ink that is said to widen the gamut for photo and art reproduction, enabling graphic designers to reproduce up to 95 percent of the colors in the Pantone Matching System (PMS) and Pantone GOE systems.

The other ten ink colors on the DesignJet Z3200 are blue, green, magenta, yellow, light cyan, and light magenta, along with four densities of black – gray, photo black, matte black, and light gray – for neutral grays . The 12th ink line delivers the Gloss Enhancer, which is used to ensure uniform glossiness and minimal bronzing on glossy photo papers.

The Designjet Z3200 leverages HP’s DreamColor technologies and embedded spectrophotometer from X-Rite to enable users to create their own custom profiles and ensure print-to-print and printer-to-printer repeatability across a range of media. The enhanced HP Color Center in the print driver simplifies workflows by making it easier to access, create, and share paper presets.
