Shoot, Then Print at Texas Coast Photo Workshop

Fine-art photographer and gallery owner Ruth Burke is leading a Coastal Photo Workshop in Seabrook, Texas on March 7 and 8. The workshop will combine location photography of nature, water birds, marine and coastal subjects with Photoshop instruction for creating exhibition-quality fine-art digital prints.

According to Burke, “March is one of the best months to photograph in Seabrook, which is located on the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. Flocks of white pelicans spend the winter along the coastal areas from October to April. Trees will be budding and the coastal grasses will be flush with new growth. Plus, the sunrises and sunsets on the water are brilliant.”

About 70 percent of the instruction will be conducted in the field; the other 30 percent will be spent in the classroom, where you can learn how to convert your images into fine art prints. Images captured in the field can be scanned on a Nikon 5000 scanner if necessary and output on an Epson Stylus Pro printer on photo satin paper, rag watercolor paper, or canvas.

The workshop fee is $150/person for one day, and $300 for both days. The rate for couples is $250 for one day; $500 for both days. The fee includes breakfast and lunch on Saturday and a Galveston Bay Sunset cruise Saturday evening aboard the five-start sailing vessel, the Wind Song. Attendees also receive instructional handouts with a digital workshop chart and a complimentary fine-art print of your best image from the shoot.

Burke owns the Seaside Gallery in Seabrook, in which she sells her décor photography and custom picture framing. Her prints are included in residential and commercial interiors worldwide and her photographs have appeared in publications such as Metropolitan Home, Conde Nast Traveler, and Texas Highways. Burke’s article, entitled Décor Photography That Sells, will appear in the January/February issue of Great Output. More information on the workshop and samples of Burke’s images can be found at her website.
