The Art of Photography Show in San Diego is a world-class exhibition of all forms of photographic art including: images shot on film, images shot digitally, alternative processes, mixed media, digital manipulations, montages, and photograms.
The cash awards for the top entries have been doubled this year. Fifteen awards will be presented, including: a $2,000 first-place award, a $1,600 second-place award, a $1,200 third-place award, an $800 fourth-place award, and 11 Honorable Mentions worth $400 each.
The deadline for entries is May 22, and the only requirement is that at least part of the image must be photographically created. For entry details visit The Art of Photography Show website.
According to the show’s founder Steven Churchill, the goals of the show are to showcase the very best photography from around the world and to help the artists gain broader exposure within the media and art-buying community.
Charlotte Cotton, the curator and head of the photography department at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, will review all of the submitted entries and select about 100 of the best for display in the show, which opens August 29, 2009 at the Lyceum Theatre Gallery in San Diego’s historic Gaslamp Quarter. Last year’s show featured 102 images selected from 12,216 entries submitted by photographic artists in 46 countries.
