At the DRUPA printing show in Germany in May, a lot of the buzz centered around advances in inkjet-based digital presses, such as HP’s 36-in. wide Inkjet Web Press, which can produce up to 3,200 A4 pages per minute. A new book on inkjet technology by printing-industry expert Frank Romano helps put some of these inkjet advances into perspective.
Entitled, Inkjet!: History, Technology, Markets & Applications, the book analyzes inkjet’s current and likely future role in the graphic-arts industry. It includes eight chapters:
The history of inkjet printing
The component era
The wide-format era
Inkjet printing technology
Industrial printing
Packaging printing
Transaction and transpromo printing
Drivers and trends
“Inkjet is not hype,” Romano says. “It deserves to be taken seriously, and those who are serious about their future in printing and graphic arts should pay attention.” The book was published by the PIA/GATF Press and is available to PIA/GATF members for $50, and $75 for non-members. Inkjet! (Item 1783) can be ordered online from the PIA/GATF store.
