According to a preview report issued by SGIA President/CEO Michael Robertson, “High-production digital has arrived.” He believes new progress in high-speed inkjet printing is the driving force behind many of the innovative products that will be displayed at the SGIA ’08, the Specialty Imaging and Printing Expo, Oct. 15-18 in Atlanta. Robertson says show attendees can expect to see developments in a number of key technologies, including:
Roll-to-roll UV-curable inkjet. Recent advancements have delivered more physical flexibility to traditionally brittle UV-curable inks, resulting in a growing number of output devices that can use UV-curable inks in roll-to-roll configurations.
Digital media. From corn-based banner material to multiple weights of textured cotton, silk and satins, new media products are expanding the possible applications for inkjet printing.
Inkjet inks. This year’s launch of latex-based inks brings a five-year, unlaminated lifespan, rivaling that of screen printing. High-speed and highly flexible UV inks have brought new and captivating media products to the market.
Sustainability-based products. Ongoing improvements in environmentally conscious products, from solvent alternatives to sustainable materials, continue to progress in the market to meet heightened customer demand.
