How to Reduce Operating Costs on Canon iPF8000s and iPF9000s Printers
By Mike Vogt

If you use a Canon iPF 8000s or 9000s, here are some tips that can help you reduce ink usage while prolonging the life of your printheads and maintenance tank.

If you run the printer daily, turn the “Auto Nozzle Check” off

(Select Menu > System Setup > Nozzle Check Frequency). The auto nozzle check is designed to prevent print-quality problems in environments in which the printer sits idle for days at a time. When a printer isn’t used, pigment particles in the ink can settle into the printheads and cause banding on the prints. If you use your printer every day, the likelihood that this will occur is slim.

Leave your printer on at all time.

Even though you may save some electricity by powering it down at the end of each day, you’re actually forcing the printer to do another nozzle check each time the printer starts up the next day. During this start-up initialization process, excess ink is pushed through the heads and into the maintenance tank.

Keep your firmware updated.

Updating your firmware ensures that you’re privy to the latest improvements that Canon has made to your printer, including fixes, patches, and additional media profiles. In essence, updating your firmware can help make sure that you’re using your printer to its fullest capacity.
