One of the images Epson printed for the outdoor photography exhibition was this 1960 magazine cover featuring images by Robert Lebeck, Armin Hary Reportage. A major thoroughfare in Berlin, Germany has been transformed into a huge, open-air photo exhibition to coincide with the 2009 IAFF World Championships Aug. 15-23. Epson has printed more than 60 photographs from the past 125 years that show the beauty and grace of track and field athletes in motion. The “In Motion” exhibition runs from July 23 through August 23 on the boulevard that leads spectators to the IAFF events. The IAFF (International Association of Athletic Federations) is the international governing body for athletics. Each 78 in. x 53 in. photo banner was printed on a 64-in. Epson Stylus Pro GS6000 printer that uses low-solvent inks to provide intense, natural colors that are resistant to UV light and water.
For this outdoor photo show, Jordi Borralleras of Epson Europe says “We have used the Epson Stylus Pro GS6000 to create very high-quality reproductions of some incredible images. It’s the only printer in the market that can offer the degree of photographic quality this exhibition deserves.”
Epson’s Andrea Koepfer notes that “The exhibition will portray the eventful history and beauty of track and field athletics, and hopefully provide the athletes in Berlin with a bit of inspiration. Athletic sports require speed, refined technique, and high precision—qualities that also characterize our printers."
Epson has been an Official Partner of the IAFF since 1997. However, Epson’s close bond to sports and culture extends back to the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo when the Seiko Group developed the electronic timing printer which brought chronometric results to paper. That device led to the development of the world’s first mini-printer, the EP-101, and the birth of the Epson brand.
