LensFlare35 Links Canon Pro Photographers. Photographer and Podcast Producer David E. Warner recently launched LensFlare 35, an audio podcast community for users of Canon cameras. “The site emerged out of a personal desire to connect with other photographers to share tips and techniques specific to Canon equipment,” explains Warner. “It’s easy to find communities of Nikon photographers out there, but when it comes to Canon shooters, there hasn’t been much.” His goal is to interview today’s top Canon photographers from a range of disciplines and share their unique stories, tips and techniques as weekly podcast episodes. Photographers interviewed so far include: ‘famous-faces’ portrait photographer Brian Smale; author Rick Sammon; wedding photographer David Ziser; blogger and social-media expert Rosh Sillars; nature and conservation photographer Gabby Salazar; and nature and landscape photographer Jennifer Wu.

Nik Webinar Discusses Sharpening for Different Types of Output and Substrates: A 21-minute webinar on the Nik Software website explains all of the settings in Nik Sharpener Pro for output sharpening, as well as the program’s creative sharpening and selective sharpening capabilities. In Sharpener Pro software, you can specify the size and resolution of the final image and whether you will be sending it to an RGB display such as a monitor or projection device, an inkjet printer, a continuous-tone printer (such as those used by most retail and pro labs), or a halftone press. After you’ve specified the output device, and type of paper and print resolution that will be used, Sharpener Pro 3.0 applies the optimal amount of sharpening. Getting more predictable results from your sharpening can help save ink and materials when you’re printing images on the inkjet printer in your studio and avoid the time and expense of having jobs reprinted if you send images to a lab.
Coming Up! Some of the stories we’ll be posting in the next few weeks include an interview with the winner of LexJet’s first Sunset Award; some thoughts about OBAs in inkjet media; a profile of national Addy-award-winning commercial photographer David Humphreys; and insights on fine-art reproduction from Gary Kerr of Fine Art Impressions.
