X-Rite Introduces ColorChecker Passport for RAW Workflows
X-Rite’s new ColorChecker Passport can enable digital photographers working in a RAW workflow to quickly and easily capture accurate color, instantly enhance portraits and landscapes, and maintain color control from capture to edit. The color control and profiling capabilities are designed to be adopted into any RAW workflow, but are even more powerful when used with Adobe® imaging software and the creation of profiles for DNG files. According to X-Rite, photographers who shoot JPEGs can benefit as well.

The five elements of the package include: a white balance target; a classic target; a creative enhancement target; camera calibration software; and a durable, passport-size protective case with lanyard.

The white balance chart includes a newly formulated neutral reference point to eliminate color casts and improve camera display previews for more reliable histograms.

The classic target provides the industry standard in color referencing for specific color evaluation, plus DNG profile creation for predictable and repeatable results from image to image and camera to camera.

The creative enhancement target offers fast, one-click creative enhancements and a visual reference for judging, controlling and editing images for shadow details, highlight clipping, or color shifts.

The camera calibration software makes it quick and easy to create DNG profiles for use in Adobe Lightroom®, Photoshop®, Photoshop® Elements, Camera Raw (ACR), and Bridge. According to X-Rite, the new advanced profiling technology produces DNG profiles that work exceptionally well, even in unusual, artificial light sources. Whether you are shooting with one camera or multiple cameras, you can establish an accurate color foundation and maintain control of your colors.

The software also enables you to create dual-illuminant DNG profiles. This type of profile takes into account two different light sources to create a single profile. Dual-Illuminant profiles can be made with any two of 21 supported illuminants, allowing you to create a profile for just about any type of lighting condition you may encounter.

The protective case is rugged, sized to fit in a camera bag or pocket, and can be set up to hold the target in multiple positions. The included lanyard provides a convenient way to hang the targets when shooting on location.
